Flower Power: Garden Party for My 6 year old

When my nearly 6 year-old daughter told me she wanted a “garden party” for her birthday celebration I had two thoughts. 1.) Where on earth did she get this idea? Certainly not from my, what you could barely call a garden, outside. And 2.) How can I make my own garden (that doesn’t require weeding, watering, and sunshine)?.

The ideas started flowing. Of course, I needed balloons. 🎈 That was a given. But how was I going to make the flowers? I kept getting hit with Instagram reels of those giant flowers that people are making using PVC pipes and crepe paper, and decided that was a done deal. I had to make one, actually 5. Now unfortunately, this is not a tutorial on how to make those flowers. I’m not sure I could recreate it if I tried. It wasn’t easy, but SO WORTH IT. I loved them, and learned some really interesting things. Did you know if you put piping hot sand into a PVC pipe it will make the PVC pipe turn practically into rubber and you can shape it however you want and then once it cools it will harden into the shape you created!! Mind blown.

Anyway, back to what I do know more about. Balloons. Decor. Crafts. For the first time, I bought some new arched backdrops for my balloon display. And oh my goodness, did I love how this turned out. I bought these on Amazon during Prime Days, but compared to a rental these are super reasonable. Plus you can buy different colors of the fabric covering and trade out for any of your events.

Loved these arches to display my balloons!

I also found these incredible fold butterfly 3d stickers that matched my “Happy Birthday” banner and I stuck those to the balloons. Those might have been my favorite part. I also tried for the first time, linking balloons, and though I don’t have much practice with them yet, loved the different look they brought!

When it comes to an activity, I had to figure out a way to keep 14 young girls busy in my home (it was pouring outside). I knew I wanted to do something on theme, so I bought plain white plant pots and saucers, and we had a painting party! Each girl got their own paint tray, paint brushes, and themed disposable placemat for their projects. I couldn’t believe it, but they all sat still for like 20 minutes, painting, chatting, and listening to music. So cute. and they came out great!

Little artist stations ready for the artists!

Then of course the rest of the party was spent eating pizza, cake, tearing through the presents, and playing dress up in our playroom (which we recently moved to the basement 🙌).

All in all, a super success for my girl! And I finally figured out a garden that I can keep alive!
